Combining digital image correlation with X-ray computed tomography for characterization of fiber orientation in unidirectional composites

چکیده

We apply Digital Image Correlation (DIC) to X-ray Computed Tomography (CT) slices for characterization of individual fibers misalignment in continuous fiber composites. This is an atypical application DIC since the input a CT tomogram acquired at one time step, whereas typical deformation analysis 2D images captured over consecutive loading steps. The methodology demonstrated and validated on synchrotron glass/epoxy laminate, where can be clearly identified. It found that average/standard deviation displacement field every slice good estimation actual all fibers’ cross-sections slice. provides shortcut measurement moments orientation distribution, compared algorithms reconstruct center lines. Using this shortcut, was also characterized carbon/epoxy were not observed where, segmentation tools failed characterize fibers. Furthermore, being applied during in-situ tension, employed quantify evolution tension. investigated 3D volumes are provided [1] described [2].

Empirical correlation for porosity deduction from X-ray computed tomography (CT)

For obtaining reservoir petrophysical properties, for example porosity, non-destructive methods such as X-ray computed tomography, CT, seems to be precise and accurate. Porosity is deducted from the CT image with a single scan via different techniques, such as pore space detection by image segmentation techniques then correlation with porosity. More than one hundred samples with carbonate li...

Evaluation of 3D fiber orientation analysis based on x-ray computed tomography data

Many products in automotive applications are using fiber reinforced polymers due to the advantage of light weight and better mechanical properties. The effect of fiber reinforcement is directly dependent on the length and orientation of the fibers within the polymer matrix. The established methods to measure quantitatively fiber orientation are destructive analyses based on 2D polished sections...

Combining Acceleration Techniques for Low-Dose X-Ray Cone Beam Computed Tomography Image Reconstruction

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Over the past decade, image quality in low-dose computed tomography has been greatly improved by various compressive sensing- (CS-) based reconstruction methods. However, these methods have some disadvantages including high computational cost and slow convergence rate. Many different speed-up techniques for CS-based reconstruction algorithms have been developed. The pur...

X-ray computed tomography.

X-ray computed tomography (CT), introduced into clinical practice in 1972, was the first of the modern slice-imaging modalities. To reconstruct images mathematically from measured data and to display and to archive them in digital form was a novelty then and is commonplace today. CT has shown a steady upward trend with respect to technology, performance and clinical use independent of predictio...
